I Am What I Eat!

Family dinners at my house are not like you see on television. The perfect family sitting around the table saying grace and talking about how there day went. Dinner is not a very important time of the day for my family. It is merely a time of the day where you get something good to eat. It is not like breakfast or lunch where you whip something up real quick that is somewhat healthy to get you through your day. Dinner is most the time cooked by my mom when she gets home from work. She is a good mother adding all the healthy stuff like vegetables and meat into dinner each night. There are the days where she may say, “it is fend for yourself night”. This is where you find something to eat all on your own. This is typically because my mom had had a long day at work and simply is to exhausted to cook dinner. On these nights I might run out to a fast food place because I have no time to cook dinner. Time is valuable these days and it is really hard to sit down and eat a good meal with your family. I live with my mom and dad. All three of us work and I also go to school at night. When are schedules combine it does not make for an easy dinner time. No matter when dinner is made most the time someone misses out on it. If you miss dinner you warm up a plate when you get home.

Then there are the more important dinners like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and etc. My whole family gets together this includes my sisters, brother, nieces, and nephew and we all enjoy each others company. I enjoy smelling all the foods when they get taken out of the oven or off the stove. My mom always makes my favorites sweet potatoes and green bean casserole. Tons of varieties of dishes cover the table. Everyone waits there turn to dish themselves out a plate. My family really doesn’t eat together we sit where we want around the house. The little kids usually at the table so they do not spill on grandma’s carpet. The boys sit next to the blasting television usually watching football. The girls sit together talking about random things that have happened in their lives. Do not get me wrong my family loves each other but eating together is not very important at my house. We have other things we like to do in order to have fun during the holidays. Playing games, decorating, or just sitting and having a good conversation.

Traditions in my life that consist of food is celebrating my birthday. Every year since I can remember I have went to Tampicos a Mexican restaurant. The only thing I ask my mom for my birthday is to go there. It gives me a sense of comfort going there every year. I do not know how I would feel if I missed a year. Sitting there while they put the sombrero on your head and my mom takes pictures of my sister and I. The employees sing happy birthday in Spanish and I do not understand one word but I still love it every time. Then the joy of eating the fried ice cream after the embarrassment is all done with. I love every minute of it.

Starbucks is a Community

Starbucks is a community that shares one thing in common the love for coffee and other enjoyable drinks. It is a place for people to relax and talk with friends about how hectic their week may have been. The employees who greet you as you walk in the door brighten your day. They give a sigh of relief to customers who have had a long day at work or just a long day with the kids. The smell of coffee warms the air no matter which one you walk into. What holds this group together is the love for coffee. It is a place where total strangers can sit down and talk over a cup of coffee and not feel totally awkward. This is a community where people may go with friends, or a business matter, or to meet an old friend they may have not seen in a while. I would say the interest this community shares is the interest in trying new drinks that come out. The need would be to the need for coffee. For some people like myself I could not imagine my life without Starbucks. Making coffee at home is just not the same for me. I think this community values the fact that we are so fortunate to be able to have a place to give us coffee. The fact that other places around the world do not have this privilege.

I fit into this group of people because I am just another customer who enjoys a great cup of coffee. I like to grab Starbucks before heading off to work. A little caffeine in the morning to wake me up and start my day. Or getting an ice cold drink on a sunny day to cool me down. This community is one I want to be apart of because it is a comfortable environment. A place to calm down and relax. The people in this community are always so friendly and nice. I hope this community is around for more years to come.

What's in my wallet?

What my wallet says about me? Can you really tell who someone is by what is in their wallet? I believe that unless you get to know someone you truly do not know who they are. Someone may have a dirty, cluttered wallet but be the nicest person you have ever met. Most people, myself included would assume that this person was not nice and probably not someone they would want to meet. But you do not know anything about that person or their life.
There are a lack of contents in my wallet due to the fact that a few months ago my other wallet got stolen. I basically lost who I was when my wallet was stolen. I had nothing and I felt like I was a nobody. I had to go get everything replaced which was very time consuming. You feel like a little kid again with not having anything with you when you walk into a store. I am a lot more careful in what I put in my wallet since I have gone through that experience of losing my personal belongings.
At first glance my wallet may say that I am stuck up or rich. As a name brand wallet that is the first impression it gives off. The first thing you see when you open my wallet is my identification card. Which anyone who sees that can assume that I drive. Also they will easily figure out that I am a female. My weight, height, address, and etc. are also mentioned and very noticeable. The fact that I value the chance to give someone a second chance at life can be assumed from the fact that I am an organ donor. One might think that I am a very neat and organized person. All my cards are neatly put away with the names face up for easy use. My debit card is what you see first. With the name of an uncommon bank on the card. This can show that I am a small town girl who does not like going to big businesses. Having a debit card shows that I may have a job and put my money in the bank. I have two shopping cards Costco and a Petsmart card. Some people may believe I like to buy a lot of food and eat free samples. Also one can assume I have a pet or two and like to save money on pet supplies. My insurance card which I have at all times is neatly tucked in one of the pockets. This card shows that I like to obey the law by being an insured driver. With the names of my parents on my insurance card one can assume maybe I still live with my parents and that they pay for my insurance. When you open the other side of my wallet a neat stack of receipts lay there. Showing I may be someone who has to keep everything just in case they need to return anything. Or maybe I like to make sure how much money I am spending. The last thing that is in my wallet is a zipper pocket full of change. People may think that I like to pay in exact change. I never carry cash with me because it is easier just to swipe my debit card. I have no credit cards which may show to someone that I manage my money very well. As you can see my wallet does not have anything very exciting in it. I hold in my wallet only what I need. I do not like to have clutter in my wallet.
If all people had to go off of was my wallet they would miss a lot about who I really am. My wallet may show that I am neat but that is not what my room shows. If you noticed I did not mention anything about having pictures in my wallet. My last wallet had pictures of my nieces and siblings in it. Due to the fact it got stolen I have not put any pictures in this wallet yet. People would not know that I have a boyfriend by just looking at my wallet. Or that I have a twin sister and this could really be her wallet. Never would anyone guess that I am a student at Everett Community College. My student identification card also was taken from my old wallet. My wallet does not show that I love sports, especially softball. Or that I love to workout at LA Fitness, I want to go to the UW for my junior and senior year of college, and that I want to live in a house that overlooks the water.
